Fire Rated Panelled doors

Specialist manufacturer Longden has recently completed a successful 5-year BWF-CERTIFIRE audit - as well as additional testing to enable expansion of its range of fire-rated, traditional solid timber fire rated panelled doors and doorsets. The Longden range can achieve up to FD60 (60-minutes) fire rating, with smoke control where needed, fully certified and supported by the BWF-CERTIFIRE scheme.
As a result of successful additional testing, larger doors, door panels and areas of glazing are covered by BWF-CERTIFIRE certification than previously. Building Regulations Part B firmly recognises the relevance of such UKAS accredited, independent product conformity certification schemes to ensure that fire resistance performance levels are actually achieved on site. Building Regulations concentrate on protecting occupants but there is also protection of the building itself to consider, particularly with historic properties. Fire doors offer the most effective means of containing fire and smoke, so protecting historic building fabric without the damaging effects of sprinklers.
Production techniques unique to Longden enable traditionally crafted doors to achieve these fire ratings as well as other performance levels such as 36 RwdB sound reduction or ‘Secured by Design’ accreditation for security, where needed. Longden doors, panelled doors and doorsets are traditionally constructed with solid timber stiles, rails and panels. The Longden range offers both raised and fielded panel designs, which can be combined with moulded rails, stiles and muntins, applied mouldings and other traditional detailing. Other innovations include overhead door closers with the mechanism concealed within the head at the top of the door leaf, avoiding visually intrusive surface-mounted closers and invasive work to floors to inset floor-level closers – particularly important on historic ‘listed’ properties.
