St Dunstan’s is a national charity which helps blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women to regain their independence and make the most of the opportunities available to them through rehabilitation, training, support and advice.
A new centre is due to open in September this year in the refurbished former North Wales Medical Centre in Llandudno. The listed building has been converted to offer a full range of services and facilities meeting the needs of those who have lost their sight; accommodation will include 40 bedrooms, two lounges, a dining room, a bar, a gymnasium and a craft room.
90 Longden solid timber doorsets were specified for the project to meet performance characteristics of up to 30 minutes fire resistance in a mix of Lincoln 3-panel, Sussex 4-panel and Windsor Pattern styles; all doors were supplied primed for on-site painting. Manufactured from high performance materials, the doorsets use solid timber stiles, rails and muntins; hand-made mortice and tenon and wedged joints with a waterproof adhesive to ensure maximum durability.
The Longden range is particularly suited to the restoration of historic buildings of all types. Longden has been manufacturing bespoke, solid timber doors and doorsets for well over a hundred years and many of our famous, listed buildings have relied on Longden’s expertise to replicate original features and maintain and preserve their heritage.
Combining craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques, Longden doorsets achieve a perfect balance of style, function and performance. They can be specified using timber and timber-based raw materials approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and exclusively from well-managed and sustainable sources.
