Handings

As a door manufacturer our standard door handings follow the diagrams as set out below.

Single action L/H door swing

However, the International Standards Organisation (ISO)
devised a method of handing which has been adopted by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongery (GAI). To maintain consistency amongst ironmongers when specifying ironmongery only, Longden will follow this method which is based on the direction of the closing door. This is either clockwise closing, or anti-clockwise closing, as shown in the diagram on the following page.

It is sometimes necessary to describe in the ironmongery schedule which face of the door an item of hardware should be fitted to. This can also be done with the ISO handing method. The opening face is designated ‘0’ and the face which closes into the frame is designated ‘1’, refer to diagram below.
